One of the most fascinating and mysterious creatures of the North Sea is the cuttlefish, also known as the sepia. Cuttlefish have an internal shell called a cuttlebone, which serves to reinforce their body and help regulate their buoyancy in the water. Since cuttlefish lack bones, this shell is essential for their structure.
This cuttlebone, often referred to as "sea foam," frequently washes up on North Sea beaches during the summer. Remarkably, it can be used for metal casting. Its porous texture allows you to carve or press shapes into it, creating a mould. The distinctive lines unique to each cuttlefish remain visible in the resulting cast.
Ossa sepia items are part of the collection SALT,
